The Forest
|
This sculpted clock is a direct reference to a forest. It's made from recycled timber as all my work is wherever possible. I wanted to express my deep felt concerns for our rain forests and all of nature. The clock is made from rain forest mahogany at least 100 years old, probably used as ballast in the trade ships which needed ballast to take on when they returned from delivering supplies and trading. That's why the timber was first used in this country. It represents my concerns for the time they have taken to give us air to breathe and man's total lack of consideration for our future. We rip up vast acres of forest yet no laws or government have really stepped in yet. In the face is the tree of life which is of Arabic influence and it's interesting the link with spirituality and nature. Humanities total lack of concern in the past has led to such devastation and placed so much of nature at death's door. My belief in the connection between nature and ourselves, the vast resources hidden in nature and there for mankind to use but only in harmony not in the way we have in the past. I believe we are finally beginning to realise the importance of the planet and its resources along with our duty to defend it and preserve its natural development. What more can I say. |
